The Rundown
Haylen Green (2-1) was brilliant in his second start of the season. The sophomore, who faced just two batters over the minimum, needed just 90 pitches to fire his first career complete game. He retired the first 14 batters he faced in the game and allowed just three total base runners. Green finished the afternoon with a career-high 11 strikeouts.
The first Lamar batter to reach did so on a two-out error in the fifth. Green's first hitter to reach safely didn't come until a lead-off walk in the seventh. A lead-off single by Chad McKinney in the ninth broke up the no-hitter, but he was erased on a double play ball.
TCU's offense provided plenty of run support as it scored 11 runs on 16 hits. Coby Boulware's two-out, bases-loaded single in the second got the scoring started. Another two-out single, this one from Zach Humphreys in the third extended the lead to 2-0.
The Horned Frogs broke the game open in the fourth with a three-run home run from A.J. Balta, pushing the lead to 5-0.
A six run fifth inning accounted for the final score. With the bases loaded and two out, Balta dumped a single into right field to drive in two runs. Johnny Rizer laced an RBI-single into center for an 9-0 lead. Connor Wanhanen added another two-run single to cap the scoring.
