Eissler (3-1), a sophomore from Littleton, Colo., was brilliant in relief of Haylen Green on Sunday afternoon to get the series win over No. 4 Texas Tech. He tallied multiple strikeouts in all five innings he pitched including striking out the side in the eighth in picking up the victory. Eissler retired all 15 batters he faced in tying his career high with five innings pitch and tallying a career-high 11 strikeouts.
Eissler and the baseball team hope to keep the momentum going as they head to Abilene on Tuesday to face Abilene Christian.
Newton, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., added another accomplishment to his storied TCU career, setting the school outdoor triple jump record at the National Relay Championships. On his fifth attempt, Newton jumped 16.57m (54'4.5") breaking the previous school record of 16.55m (54'3.5") set by Jonathan Jackson in 2008. Newton now holds both TCU's indoor and outdoor triple jump school records. Newton finished third in the meet, with the top five finishers all recording the top five marks in the nation.
Newton and the track and field return to action in two weeks for the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet, scheduled for May 11-13, in Waco, Texas.
