STILLWATER – Oklahoma State staked itself to an early 2-0 lead and TCU mustered just five hits against Cowboy starter Thomas Hatch in a 9-0 loss Friday night.
The Rundown
TCU had a base runner in seven of the nine innings, but a trio of pick-offs and a double play squelched any momentum the Frogs were trying to muster.
The Frogs best chance to get on the board came in the ninth inning after a one-out, two-base error had Ryan Johnson standing on second. A wild pitch moved him to third, but a strikeout ended game.
Oklahoma State broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third. The first two Cowboys reached on a single and a walk. With one out, a grounder to the right side pushed across the go-ahead run. A two-out hit from Garrett Benge made it a 2-0 game.
The Cowboys stretched their lead in the fifth inning. A lead-off double from J.R. Davis had Oklahoma State in business. He scored on a Corey Hassel base hit to make it a 3-0 game. A one-out error proved costly as the Cowboys punched across a trio of two-out runs to open up a 6-0 advantage.
A lead-off single in the sixth turned into the Cowboys seventh run of the game and two unearned runs in the seventh accounted for the final score.
Jared Janczak (4-3) was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs (three earned) on six hits in three innings of work.
