Baseball Tops First Preseason Poll

The last time TCU earned a No. 1 preseason ranking came in 2011.
The Frogs are one of four Big 12 schools to be ranked as Oklahoma State checks in at No. 26, Texas Tech at No. 29 and Texas at No. 30. TCU’s schedule features seven other schools ranked in the Top 30 in No. 2 LSU, No. 17 Long Beach State, No. 20 Texas A&M, No. 22 Ole Miss, No. 25 Arizona State, No. 26 Dallas Baptist and No. 27 Rice.
TCU is coming off its third straight appearance in the College World Series. The Frogs compiled a 49-18 record, including a 15-9 mark in Big 12 play. Along the way, the Frogs earned their second Big 12 Tournament title and hosted an NCAA Regional for the third consecutive year before claiming their second road Super Regional Championship on the way to Omaha.
In 2017, the Horned Frogs return eight of nine field starters, their entire starting rotation and their closer. In addition, the Frogs welcomed a group of 11 newcomers, a group that was ranked in the top 10 nationally by three different publications. Five Frogs were tabbed Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-Americans.
TCU opens up the 2017 schedule on Feb. 17 when it hosts Penn State for a three game set.
FORT WORTH – For the second time in program history, the TCU baseball team will open the season as the No. 1 team in the country as tabbed by Collegiate Baseball. It marks the eighth straight season that the Horned Frogs will be ranked entering the season.
