A two-year star for the Horned Frogs from 2006-07, Arrieta allowed just two base runners in tossing the 14th no-hitter in Chicago Cubs history. His no-no is the sixth in Major League Baseball this season and the second against the Dodgers in a 10-day span. He walked just one batter and struck out 12, one off his career high.
Along the way, Arrieta earned his MLB-leading 17th victory. He has recorded 14 straight quality starts and lowered his ERA to 2.11, a mark that is second in the Big Leagues. Arrieta wrapped up the month of August with a perfect 6-0 record and posted a 0.43 ERA in 42 1/3 innings pitched.
Arrieta is no stranger to leading the nation in victories. As a sophomore in 2006, Arrieta led the NCAA with 14 wins. He was a third round pick of the Baltimore Orioles in 2007.
