FORT WORTH -- TCU's baseball team gave fans a glimpse of the 2016 roster Sunday afternoon with a fall scrimmage against Abilene Christian. The Horned Frogs scored 13 runs on 17 hits, while 12 pitchers held ACU to just six hits.
On the mound, TCU used 12 pitchers for an inning of work each. Luken Baker, Mitchell Traver, Dalton Horton, Durbin Feltman, Brain Trieglaff and Devon Roedahl all pitched perfect innings. Also toeing the rubber were Rex Hill, Mitch Sewald, Sean Wymer, Jared Janczak, Ryan Burnett and Preston Guillory.
Abilene Christian scored four runs (one earned) on six hits. The Frog pitching staff issued just four walks and fanned 15 batters.
On the offensive side, the Frogs pounded out 17 hits led by a three-hit game by newcomer Ryan Johnson. He finished the afternoon 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Nolan Brown, Connor Wanhanen, Luken Baker, Evan Skoug, Mason Hesse and Dane Steinhagen all tallied two hits each.
In all, 13 newcomers got their first taste of game action in a Horned Frog uniform.
The game wraps up the first week of fall practice for the Horned Frogs. Fall practice will continue with practice days and intrasquad scrimmages leading up to the Purple-White Pizza Bowl in November.
TCU returned 15 letterwinners from a squad that finished 51-15 overall in 2015. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle will look to a talented balance of returners and newcomers to fill in the void left by the departure of five position starters and three starting pitchers. The roster features 20 newcomers in addition to the 18 players returning from a year ago.
