FORT WORTH, Texas -- Former TCU standout and current St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Matt Carpenter is a close second in voting to be in the National League's starting lineup for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game, which will take place July 16 at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y.
The voting deadline is Thursday, July 4, at 11:59 p.m. EDT. The link to vote is here.
Carpenter and Cincinnati's Joey Votto are the only players in the National League to rank in the top-five in batting average, runs scored and on-base percentage.
In games through July 1, Carpenter is fifth in the NL in batting (.322) while placing second in runs (60), third in on-base percentage (.397) and sixth in doubles (23). He has seven home runs and 32 RBIs from his leadoff position in the lineup.
Carpenter was a four-year letterman for TCU (2005-06, 2008-09). He is TCU's all-time leader in games played, making 241 appearances for the Horned Frogs. He ranks in TCU's all-time career top-five in at bats, runs scored, hits, RBIs, doubles and walks.
