FORT WORTH, Texas - Former Horned Frog slugger Chad Huffman won the Triple A Home Run Derby that took place in Portland, Ore. Huffman plays outfield for the Padres Portland Beavers. He hammered out five home runs in the final round to take home the title.
Huffman was a late addition to the All-Star team, keeping his streak of appearing in the mid-summer classic alive. In each of his three previous seasons in the minor leagues, Huffman has been named to the All-Star team.
In the first round, Huffman smacked a round-high seven round-trippers. He hit three more in the second round before outlasting Scranton/Wilkes'-Barre's Shelley Duncan with five in the final round.
With the Beavers this season, Huffman leads the squad with 12 home runs. He is hitting .250 in 83 games this season. Along with the 12 home runs, he has 14 doubles, two triples and 42 RBIs.
