
Horned Frogs enjoying summer success

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU baseball team is well represented around the country as 13 members of the squad are enjoying their summers playing baseball in various summer leagues. In addition to those 13, two future Frogs are also participating in summer leagues.
Four players can be found locally in the prestigious Texas Collegiate League in Trent Appleby, Jimmie Pharr, Aaron Schultz (Coppell) and Matt Curry (East Texas).
Appleby is playing for league-leading McKinney. Coming off a successful freshman campaign, Appleby has made two appearances, including one start for the Marshalls. He has seven strikeouts in 6/13 innings pitched. Pharr has two RBIs in seven games played for the Coppell Copperheads. He has scored three runs, worked three walks and tallied a stolen base. Both Schultz and Curry are out with injuries.
Four more Frogs can be found with the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska Baseball League. Paul Gerrish, Tyler Lockwood, Corey Steglich and Davey Wright are all members of the Bucs squad that is 5-1 on the young season.
Gerrish is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in two starts this summer. He has fanned eight batters in 10 2/3 innings pitched. Lockwood is 1-0 in one relief appearance and has posted a 2.08 ERA. Steglich has played in six games, making four starts. He has four RBIs and one stolen base. Newcomer, Davy Wright has played in five games and made one start. He has two base hits.
Derek VerHagen and Taylor Cragin are playing for the Kamuela Paniolos in the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League. Cragin has made one start, allowing a run on three hits with four strikeouts in three innings pitched. VerHagen has tossed three innings, allowing a run on four hits.
Greg Holle and Sean Hoeslcher are playing for the Newport Gulls in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Holle has made one start for the Gulls. He struck out eight in four innings pitched. Hoelscher has yet to make an appearance.
Brett Medlin and Relly Mercurio are playing in Asheboro, N.C. for the Copperheads in the Coastal Plains League. Medlin has played in nine games, making eight starts. He has four hits and stolen one base. Mercurio is hitting .310 in 17 starts with 22 base hits and seven RBIs and is 12-for-12 in stolen bases.
Bryan Holaday rounds out the current Frogs playing summer baseball as he is a member of the Alexandria Beetles of the Northwoods League. He has two hits in seven games played.
