FORT WORTH, Texas - Brad Furnish threw a complete-game two-hit shutout for the White team to lead them to a 3-2 series win over the Purple team. Two fourth inning runs for the White team proved to be the difference as they won, 2-0 Sunday afternoon. Keith Conlon and Teddy Kreder drove in runs and Furnish shut down the Purple offense and struck out seven.
Furnish retired the first eight men he faced before Chase Kiecke connected for a two-out single in the bottom of the third, but he was wiped out trying to steal second base. Chase Perry was just as effective for the Purple team, facing the minimum, as well, through three innings. The lone blemish in his line through three came with a one-out singe to Derek VerHagen in the second.
White finally put together the first scoring opportunity in the fourth inning, striking for two runs on three hits. Ryan Pack led off the inning with a walk and promptly stole second. A bunt single off the bat of Steven Trout sent Pack to third where he scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Conlon. Trout then swiped second base and scored on a base knock by Kreder.
Furnish faced only one batter over the minimum in his seven innings. He didn't face more than three hitters in the final three innings he pitched.
For the Purple team, Perry pitched four innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out one and walked one. Eric Marshall and Dillon Farish each worked a scoreless inning as well.
The Frogs have wrapped up their fall practices and will return to individual work outs leading up to January when they will hit the field in preparation for the upcoming 2006 season.
