FORT WORTH, Texas - Head coach Jim Schlossnagle announced the upcoming fall schedule for the Horned Frog baseball squad. The team will begin practices on Tuesday. The Frog's fall schedule runs through Oct. 30 and will be highlighted by the Purple and White World Series beginning Oct. 26.
"We have been working hard for about a month now in the weight room to get in shape for fall practice and in our individual skill hours to be ready for intrasquad competition," said Schlossnagle. "I'm sure our players are ready to get in that evironment and I know that I am ready to see them compete. Fall practice is a team-oriented activity. We will work daily on some individual skills but mainly our time will be spent on developing team offense and defense. This is a key time for the coaching staff to evaluate each player and see who win spots in the lineup this spring."
The fall practices will be the first chance for fans to see the returning back-to-back C-USA Conference Champions in action. Twenty members from a 2005 squad return that finished the season with a school-record 41 victories and their second straight trip to the NCAA Regionals. Highlighting the returners are freshmen All-Americans Matt McGuirk and Andrew Walker as well as lineup mainstays, Keith Conlon and Austin Adams. Fans will also get to see some new faces as transfers Bryan Kervin, Brent Allar and Jake Arrieta will see their first team practices in the Purple and White.
The Frogs will begin practice Tuesday-Friday at 2:15 p.m. Saturday's practices will begin at 1:00, while Sunday practices are slated for an 11:00 start time. The team will take Mondays off.
"I want to personally invite all TCU fans to come out and catch a practice or intrasquad game," Schlossnagle said. "The doors to Lupton Stadium are open and I know the players enjoy it when we have people in the ballpark for practice."
All games are open to the public and free of admission. Also included in the schedule is the Major League Scout day, which is set for Wednesday, Oct. 19. Anyone wanting to conduct interviews is asked to contact Brandie Davidson at 817-257-7479.
