Sooners Win Two Against Baseball Frogs

NORMAN, Okla. (April 4) - Rick Park hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning to lead the Oklahoma Sooners to a 16-13 win over TCU Tuesday. The game was started on February 22 in Fort Worth, but was suspended after the fifth inning with the Sooners leading 10-8. Oklahoma also won the regularly scheduled game, 5-2.
The Frogs at one time trailed by a score of 10-2, but they rallied for five runs in the third and one in the fifth, closing the gap to 10-8. A rain storm interrupted play, forcing the contest to be suspended.
In Norman, the Sooners scored one run in the sixth, increasing the lead to 11-8. The Frogs took the lead in the seventh, scoring four runs. Mickey Scala walked, Erick Macha singled and Levi Groomer was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brad Rogers doubled home Scala and Macha, bringing the Frogs to within one run. Marshall Wilson then singled home Scala and Rogers, providing TCU with their first lead of the game. However, the lead would not stand for long. Chad Durham issued a single and a walk to the first two batters in the eighth, putting runners at first and second. Park then homered to left center, driving in all three runs. OU added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. Durham pitched the final four innings, allowing six runs, five earned on seven hits.
In the second game, Michael Bradbury allowed two runs and scattered seven hits in 8.2 innings. The Frogs scored once in the first and once in the seventh. Erick Macha singled and scored on Brad Rogers groundout in the first. Jason Price doubled and scored on Mike Settle's two-out single in the seventh. TCU stranded only six men in the game. Shawn Thompson suffered the loss for the Frogs. He allowed three runs, all in the first inning, on five hits in three innings pitched.
