2000 TCU Baseball Splits Twin Bill at Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas (Feb. 27) - The TCU Horned Frogs edged Lamar in the opener of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon, 3-2, but dropped the nightcap, 9-5, to conclude a three-game series with the Cardinals at Vincent-Beck Stadium in Beaumont.
TCU (5-11) pushed across the winning run in the top of the eighth inning to take the first game, but was victimized by a six-run rally by Lamar in the bottom of the sixth frame of the second game as the Cardinals took two of three games in the series. Chad Durham (2-1) picked up the victory in relief on the mound for TCU in the opener. Durham worked the final two innings in relief of starter Shawn Thompson, pitching shutout ball while striking out three, walking one and allowing two hits.
Heath Totten (3-2) was the losing pitcher for Lamar, going the distance while allowing three runs on six hits and striking out six Horned Frogs without walking a batter. Four Lamar errors played a role in the TCU victory.
Shawn Thompson got the start for TCU in the first game, going six innnings and allowing two runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four Cardinal hitters.In the nightcap, TCU held a 5-3 lead heading into the home half of the sixth before Lamar erupted for six runs to take the victory.
TCU starter Chris Frazier (1-2) was in command before the Cardinal rally. He worked five and 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (all earned) on just two hits while walking four and striking out six.
