The Horned Frogs led in every set but couldn’t manage the victory on the road
AMES, Iowa – TCU Volleyball (6-5, 0-1) struggled to finish sets on Friday night, falling, 3-0, to Iowa State (9-3, 1-0) inside Hilton Coliseum. TCU led in all three sets but couldn't find points in critical moments and the Horned Frogs dropped their 2021 Big 12 conference opener.
"We had a good plan and preparation heading into this match, but needed to capitalize on the leads we created," head coach Jill Kramer said. "We had the same amount of kills as ISU and triple the amount of hitting errors, and we were in each set. I think a lot of that has to do with our passing efficiency and creating better opportunities for our attackers. We have an opportunity to be more consistent across the board tomorrow and make Iowa State earn more of their points."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (ISU, 25-21): Iowa State rode the home crowd to a 13-9 advantage before TCU went on its first of many scoring runs on the day, securing five straight points thanks to a kill and a block from Myers and strong serving, including an ace, from Nalls. The Frogs took the lead, 14-13, and would hold that lead up until 21-20. At that point, Iowa State would go on a 5-0 run of its own, thanks to a pair of kills, a service ace and two TCU errors. Adams was very strong in the front row, collecting four kills on seven swings with just one error. Nalls made her presence felt on the defensive end, finishing with five digs.
Set 2 (ISU, 25-18): Adams was nearly unstoppable at the beginning of the second, making three quick kills to put TCU in front, 6-2. The Frogs extended that lead to 12-7 thanks to Adams' fourth kill of the set, but a near perfect run of hitting from the Cyclones sent them on an 18-6 run, ending in a two-set deficit for the Frogs. ISU made 15 kills without a single error in the second set, compared to 14 kills and seven errors by the Frogs. Adams led the way with five kills on .444 hitting and Nichols delivered 10 assists with a team-best five digs in the losing effort.
Set 3 (ISU, 25-23): For the second set in a row, TCU started off very strong, playing competitive points to a 10-10 score. The Frogs made a 3-0 run after Iowa State made a couple errors, but the Cyclones matched the run to tie things back up 13-13. Myers and Afedo Manyang fueled another 3-0 run with a block and one kill apiece to put TCU in front again, 17-15, but back-to-back Horned Frog errors sent ISU on a a run to match it and the score was reset, 20-20. The Frogs took their final lead of the night off an Adams kill, 23-22, before a pair of errors handed Iowa State the win and yet another 3-0 scoring run.
