TCU goes on the road to finish out Big 12 action for the season starting with K-State and Kansas.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Big 12 action for the TCU women's tennis team will resume this weekend as the Horned Frogs travel to the state of Kansas to face No. 48 Kansas State on Friday, March 29 at 3:30 p.m., in Manhattan, before traveling to Lawrence to take on No. 17 Kansas on Sunday, March 31 at Noon.
TCU Notables
TCU has won four of the last five matches played after scoring the 5-2 victory over SMU in the final nonconference match of the season. The Frogs are 3-1 in Big 12 play after getting three straight wins to start conference play before dropping a 4-2 decision to No. 27 Texas Tech last weekend.
New individual Oracle/ITA rankings came out last Tuesday and TCU now has a singles player and doubles pair checking in. Ellie Douglas sits at No. 112 in the singles poll and pairs up with Aleksa Cveticanin for a No. 27 doubles ranking. Douglas has won five of the last eight matches with a 3-1 mark in conference action while she and Cveticanin have won six straight doubles matches and are 10-1 on the year. Freshman Mercedes Aristegui leads all players with 16 overall wins and a 12-3 mark in dual matches.
Scouting the Wildcats
K-State sits at No. 48 in the recent Oracle/ITA poll but the team is hoping to snap a four-match losing streak after dropping decisions to Oklahoma (5-2), Oklahoma State (6-1), Texas (6-1) and Baylor (4-3). Anna Turco leads the team with 15 wins this season with nine of them coming in dual matches. Maria Linares has 12 wins this season with two coming in Big 12 action. In doubles, Turco pairs up with Margot Decker for a team-best seven wins with all the victories coming at the No. 1 spot.
Scouting the Jayhawks
Kansas sits at No. 17 in the Oracle/ITA poll and is 2-2 to start Big 12 play with wins over Oklahoma (4-3) and Baylor (6-1) and losses to Oklahoma State (6-1) and Texas (4-3). The Jayhawks have two ranked singles players and two ranked doubles teams. No. 23 Anastasia Rychagova leads the way with a 12-2 mark on the season with all victories coming on court one. Janet Koch checks in at No. 101 with six wins this year on court two. In doubles, Koch pairs up with Nina Khmelnitckaia for a No. 5 ranking as the duo are 11-1 this year while Rychagova pairs up with Sonia Smagina for a No. 61 ranking with 10 wins.
All-Time Series
Friday's match against Kansas State will be the 10th meeting all-time between the programs with TCU holding an 8-1 mark in the all-time series record. TCU won the first eight matches in the all-time series before the Wildcats won their first match last spring with a 4-1 victory in Fort Worth. The first meeting between the programs came in 1987 with a 9-0 victory by TCU at home. Since becoming conference opponents, TCU is 5-1 against K-State and Sunday's match will be only the third meeting in Manhattan.
Sunday's match against Kansas will be the ninth meeting all-time between the programs with TCU holding a 6-2 advantage in the all-time series record. The Frogs won the first six matches in the series before the Jayhawks picked up the win in the last two years. TCU is 4-2 against Kansas when facing off as conference opponents with Sunday's meeting being only the third match being played in Lawrence.
