Horned Frogs make program history
ORLANDO, Fla. – In a rematch against a familiar foe, the No. 23 TCU women's tennis team earned its revenge against Texas Tech, sweeping the Red Raiders 4-0 on Friday night at the USTA National Campus to earn the programs first-ever trip to the Big 12 Tournament Championship.
After previously losing to the Red Raiders 4-3 in Lubbock less than two weeks ago, TCU (19-4, 10-3 Big 12) secured a dominant sweep to secure one of the two remaining spots in the tournament.
After winning the doubles point with wins on courts two and three, the Frogs with the help of four first set victories and competitive performances across the board took down Texas Tech and did not allow a single opposing point to hit the scoreboard.
The No. 3 seed Frogs are now set to take on the top overall seed in the tournament, going up against the UCF Knights on Saturday at 5 p.m. UCF is the second-highest ranked team nationally in the Big 12, sitting at No. 20 overall.
Doubles wins were earned by pairings of Tomi Main and Cayetana Gay along with Raquel Caballero Chica and Jennifer Jackson. Singles victories were captured from Cristina Ramos Sierra, Victoria Gomez O'Hayon and Jackson.
DOUBLES RUNDOWN
Unlike the first time these two teams faced off against each other this season, TCU was able to make its way through doubles in 50 minutes and earn two wins on the first two courts to finish to take the doubles point.
The first duo to set the tone of the match was Caballero Chica and Jackson, as the two won 6-3 against Mariia Hlahola and Elana Daskalova.
In the midst of a competitive battle and at deuce point up 5-4 Main and Gay found what they were looking for and captured a 6-4 victory versus Ella Brownback and Polina Sleptsova to clinch the doubles point and give TCU an early advantage heading into singles play.
Gomez O'Hayon and Yu-Chin Tsai were in a tense matchup at the top court, down 3-4 before the doubles point concluded and the match headed into singles play.
DOUBLES RESULTS
1. Victoria Gomez O'Hayon/Yu-Chin Tsai (TCU) vs. #83 Hailey Murphy/Kate Dmitrichenko (TTU) 3-4, unfinished
2. Raquel Caballero Chica/Jennifer Jackson (TCU) def. Mariia Hlahola/Elena Daskalova (TTU) 6-3

SINGLES RUNDOWN
In a song that has been sung many times this season, TCU fed off the energy the bottom courts provided and used that momentum to glide through the match. Courts three through six each had the first set go in favor of the Frogs, and three of those ended up being the deciding courts for TCU.
Ramos Sierra provided the opening spark of singles play, securing an impressive 6-2, 6-4 showing against Daskalova.
Gomez O'Hayon earned her third straight victory at the No. 4 spot in singles play, knocking off Sleptsova, 6-4, 7-5 to put TCU in striking position of ending the match and punching a ticket to the Big 12 Tournament Final.
Jackson, a dominant freshman for the Frogs who has caught fire recently, ended the match after recording a three-set triumph over Havana Kadi, winning 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 and squashing any hope of the Frogs not earning a sweep.
