Historic season ends in NCAA First Round
BATON ROUGE, La. – In the NCAA Tournament First Round, the TCU women's tennis team was defeated by Rice, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at LSU Tennis Complex.
After winning the doubles point early on, the Horned Frogs (20-5) were only able to find one more win during singles action as Rice took four of the five completed courts to clinch the match.
Even with the loss, TCU put together one of if not its most impressive season in recent history. The Frogs secured their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2017 with help from an automatic bid from winning the Big 12 Tournament Championship, the first time that has happened in program history.
The 20 wins for the entire season are the most since the 2008 campaign when TCU also had 20 wins during the campaign.
DOUBLES RUNDOWN
Some gritty performances were put on display early in doubles action, as TCU was able to battle out a tough but gutsy doubles point to edge an early advantage over the Owls.
The first win was earned by Jennifer Jackson and Caballero Chica, as the two earned their seventh straight win to give the Frogs some early momentum.
Next, Cayetana Gay and Tomi Main delivered the final blow in doubles play, edging out Divna Ratkovic and Daniela Chica, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point.

SINGLES RUNDOWN
Singles play saw a slow start for TCU that the team was not able to come back from. Rice started out singles by taking five of six first sets and putting the Frogs on their heels early on.
The one individual who did win a first set for TCU, Caballero Chica, made quick work of Darya Schwartzman on court one. The junior, ranked 86th nationally in singles play, earned a 6-2, 6-2 triumph to double TCU's lead and put the match at a 2-0 advantage for the Frogs.
The Owls would then post wins on courts three and two within mere minutes of each other, as Uma Bakaityte defeated Cristina Ramos Sierra, 6-2, 6-1, and Divna Ratkovic knocked off Yu-Chin Tsai by an almost identical ledger of 6-2, 6-2 to even the match up at 2-2.
A few minutes later, with the bottom three courts all in competitive battles with TCU trying to push each to third sets, Rice grabbed wins on court five and then four in the span of a few minutes to end the match and give the Owls the clinching point and victory.
Cayetana Gay was able to battle back and force her match to a third set, but the match was clinched before the third frame could commence on court six.
