The Horned Frogs picked up win No. 4 in conference action with a 4-2 victory on Friday.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – A strong performance in doubles propelled the TCU women's tennis team to Big 12 Conference win No. 4 of the season as the Horned Frogs took down No. 48 Kansas State, 4-2, on Friday afternoon at the Body First Indoor Tennis Center in Manhattan, Kan.
TCU (12-5, 4-1 Big 12) was nearly perfect during the doubles portion of the match against the Wildcats (10-8, 0-5 Big 12) as the top two pairs breezed to easy victories. The No. 27 ranked duo of Aleksa Cveticanin and Ellie Douglas did not drop a service game on their way to their ninth straight victory of the season while Chloe Hule and Stevie Kennedy were able to get the 6-1 win on court two to put TCU up 1-0.
Due to the weather pushing the match indoors, only three courts competed at a time with the top three pairs going first. Douglas and Cveticanin continued their winning ways with each player picking up straight-set wins to give TCU three points in the match. Kansas State continued to battle and scored wins on two of the singles courts, but freshman Kate Paulus was the clincher as the Leawood, Kan., native came back to take the win on court four in the second set of matches, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
"Winning on the road is hard, especially in the Big 12. I thought we had great preparation this morning in doubles and that paid off. Clutch Kate (Paulus) came through again with a big fight from behind win and I am proud to see her get on a roll. We know we have a big one Sunday against Kansas, but we are playing good and feeling good about where we are at. At this point in the season, it's not about effort or tennis shots. It is about learning to manage the matches better and better each week and discovering how to compete at your highest level under pressure. We are improving in this area."
