TCU resumes Big 12 action by welcoming No. 27 Texas Tech on Saturday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – After a midweek victory over Dartmouth, the TCU women's tennis team will return to Big 12 Conference action as the Horned Frogs welcome No. 27 Texas Tech on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Admission is free and fans in attendance can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., served in between doubles and singles action.
TCU Notables
TCU is riding a four-match winning streak to open Big 12 play with wins over then-No. 50 Baylor (6-1), Iowa State (6-1) and West Virginia (4-0) as well as a recent nonconference victory over Dartmouth (6-1). Th 3-0 start marks the third time in program history and first time since the 2014-15 season that the Frogs have started conference play with three consecutive wins.
New individual Oracle/ITA rankings came out on Tuesday and TCU now has a singles player and doubles pair checking in. Ellie Douglas sits at No. 112 in the singles poll and pairs up with Aleksa Cveticanin for a No. 27 doubles ranking. Douglas has won four straight matches with a 3-0 mark in conference action while she and Cveticanin have won six straight doubles matches and are 8-1 on the year. Freshman Mercedes Aristegui leads all players with 15 overall wins and a 11-3 mark in dual matches.
Scouting the Red Raiders
Texas Tech is riding a five-match winning streak headed into Saturday's contest and is also undefeated in Big 12 action with identical 6-1 victories over West Virginia and Iowa State last year. Felicity Maltby leads the Red Raiders with a No. 48 singles ranking and 13 victories this season including 11 at the No.1 spot. Maltby is on a four-matching winning streak while teammate Anto Stoica has 11 wins on the season and has won the last seven straight singles matches. Kennedy Bridgforth and Lana Rush pace Texas Tech in doubles with 10 victories including three over ranked opponents.
All-Time Series
Saturday's match will be the 38th meeting all-time between TCU and Texas Tech with the Frogs leading the all-time series with a 28-9 advantage. This is the fourth season that TCU and the Red Raiders have faced-off in a nonconference match before a playing in a conference match. Earlier this season, the Red Raiders were able to come away with a 4-3 victory in Lubbock. Texas Tech has taken the win in five of the last six matches played and Saturday's match will be the 19th time the teams have faced off in Fort Worth. TCU leads the all-time series in matches played at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center with a 16-2 record.
