TCU suffers first defeat of the season
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 7 Santa Clara handed TCU a 3-0 loss on Thursday night, snapping the Horned Frogs three match winning streak and handing them their first setback of the season. Emily Alvarado made a career-high seven saves in the game.
The Rundown
TCU and Santa Clara went toe-to-toe in the opening 20 minutes of the game with Santa Clara holding just a 2-1 shot advantage.
The tide shifted in the 24thminute as Santa Clara broke through with the opening goal. Skylar Smith's shot found the far upper corner for a 1-0 lead. In the 39thminute, the Broncos stuck again on a long cross to the head of Julie Doyle who's shot found its way into the net.
Emily Alvarado did her part in goal with four strong saves in the half. TCU fired off six shots, but most came from distance. The Frogs forced the Santa Clara keeper to make a pair of stops.
Kayla Hill had TCU's best look at goal in the game. In the first half, strong work down the sideline from McKenzie Oliver and Yazmeen Ryan eventually got the ball to the foot of Hill, but her shot in tight was stopped by the keeper.
Santa Clara got the only goal of the second half as it made it a 3-0 game in the 60thminute. TCU tallied a pair of shots in the half, but both were wide of the net.
