TCU gets back in win column
FORT WORTH – In its annual alumni game and this year's special recognition of the 2016 squad, the TCU women's soccer team blanked Cincinnati, 2-0, on Friday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
TCU (5-4-1, 1-2-0 Big 12) was able to secure its two scores thanks to an Emma Yolinsky brace in the second half. Four different players combined to secure assists on Yolinsky's goals, as TCU was able to put forward a more complete second frame to push past the Bearcats.
THE RUNDOWN
In the first 45 minutes, TCU had the ball in numerous attacking opportunities but yet was only able to secure a 6-4 shot advantage at the end of the half. Despite recording five corners to Cincinnati's zero, the Frogs did not change the score tally once the first half clock came to an end.
Arguably the best chance of the first half came off a Yolinsky right-footed shot in the box in the 27th minute that required an acrobatic save from the Bearcat goalkeeper to keep the score level.
The second frame saw a different story for TCU that included a pair of positives that would prove vital in the result. Along with recording a greater shot disparity with seven shots to Cincinnati's one, TCU was able to score two goals that would be the difference in tonight's matchup.
The first came off an attack that was started on a beautiful through ball by Cameron Patton to Giovanna Costanzo. The freshman then sent in a cross to the box that went past the Cincinnati goalkeeper's arms and was caught in stride by a sprinting Yolinsky. The ball was then pummeled into the back of the net and TCU would take a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute of action.
Later on in the 74th minute, Kamdyn Fuller found an open Bella Diorio on the sideline who would streak down the sideline, run right along the end line within the box and tight rope her way into feeding a ball that would find Yolinsky standing nearly unmarked who would put the ball away for her second score of the night.
TCU would close out the match with little controversy to secure its second Big 12 victory on the year and get back into the win column.
Olivia Geller had a clinical performance in goal tonight, recording two saves and controlling the game throughout all 90 minutes.
