"I'm proud of the way we played in another tough Sunday afternoon match," TCU head coach Dan Abdalla said. "You can really see the character of a team when you are playing in the heat and on the road. Ashlea Bullington was solid in goal for us for the second-straight game and we converted on a couple of our scoring chances. We are starting to find a rhythm on offense and this was a good sign of us moving forward as we head into the conference schedule."
Overall, TCU (6-4-1) kept the pressure on the Huskies for most of the game, outshooting HBU, 22-17. The Frogs had nine different players combine to unleash 10 shots on goal. Seven players had at least two shots in the game, led by freshman Tori Hale with five strikes and senior Jordan Calhoun with three attempts of her own.
Sophomore Ashlea Bullington continued her strong play between the pipes for the Frogs, recording her first career win with three saves. The shutout was also a first for the Fort Worth, Texas native and the fifth of the season for TCU.
Hale didn't waste much time getting the Horned Frogs on the scoreboard, netting the first goal of her college career at the 0:24 mark on an assist from Calhoun. The Abilene, Texas native has led TCU in shot attempts all season long and her first goal put TCU up early 1-0.
Calhoun followed with her fifth goal of the year to begin the second half. The goal was a one-touch score in the 52nd minute on a ball sent in from senior defender Katie Taylor. The strike was the third-straight goal for the Norman, Okla., native and the fifth score in the last six games. Calhoun has scored in five of her seven starts this season and TCU has a 4-0-1 record in games that the senior finds the back of the net.
Senior Kristen Halverson capped the scoring for TCU, netting her second score of the season at the 63:13 mark on an assist from freshman Brooke Kviz. Halverson, a product of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., made an impact in the game after missing the previous three matches.
TCU will enjoy a week of practice this week before hitting the road to open Mountain West Conference play at UNLV Friday. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. CT.
