LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The TCU women's soccer team endured a physical battle in rainy conditions on the road, but came up on the short end of a 2-1 decision at UNLV to open the Mountain West Conference slate Friday night. The match had lightning in the area and brief rain.

The Horned Frogs appeared to have taken an early lead in the first half of match, but senior Jordan Calhoun's attempt was stopped short as her strike was blocked out of bounds before reaching the goal to set-up a corner kick for TCU. Freshman Natalie Werner also had a chance to give the Purple and White a 1-0 advantage, but her effort missed wide.

After UNLV began the second half with the first score of the game, redshirt freshman Brooke Kviz blazed a shot from the left side past the Rebels' goalkeeper to knot the score at 1-1 in the 54th minute. The goal was the second of the season for the Keller, Texas native and it came on an assist from senior Lindsay Holmes.

TCU had a couple of opportunities late in the match to send the night into overtime. Senior defender Katie Taylor got off an open shot on goal, but UNLV's goalkeeper made an impressive save. Kviz followed with a shot attempt of her own with less than 30 seconds to play in regulation, but the strike sailed wide.

Freshman Alicen Wright returned in goal for the Frogs after missing both matches last weekend. The Chino Hills, Calif., product added six saves to her MW league lead.

TCU will now begin preparations to host a pair of home matches against San Diego State and Texas Tech at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium next weekend.
