SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Freshman Kaitlyn Reynolds netted a goal in the 83rd minute, but it wasn't enough as TCU dropped a 3-1 decision to Utah on Thursday night at Ute Field.Reynolds, a Houston native, drove a ball from about 40 yards over the top of Utah goalkeeper Hannah Turpen in the 83rd minute to net her first career goal and bring the scoreboard to 3-1 in favor of the Utes. The Horned Frogs continued to pressure the Ute defense in the 84th as Jordan Calhoun connected on a header inside the box, but Turpen stopped the run.
Following a shot by Jackie Torda that was blocked, it appeared as if sophomore Kaylie Garcia brought the Frogs within one late in the contest, but her shot sailed just wide of the goal to keep the scoreboard at 3-1 in favor of the Utes.
Torda tried one last time at the 89:03 mark to put another goal on the board for the Purple and White, but Turpen was up to the task again, saving the ball before it crossed the goal.
Early in the first half, Calhoun tried to put the Frogs on the board off a pass from Leigha Leonard, but she just missed heading the ball into the back of the net.
A few moments later, Leonard took a loose ball from about 25 yards out and rocketed it towards the Ute goal, but just missed high over the crossbar.
Following two goals by Utah in the 30th and 32nd minute, sophomore Kaylie Garcia took a cross from inside the box and blasted the ball towards the top half of the net, but Turpen knocked the ball over the top of the goal to keep the score at 2-0 in favor of Utah.
Following the break, Torda connected on a shot from outside the box, but watched as it was saved by Turpen in the 49th minute. A few moments later, Calhoun continued the Frog offensive pressure, but the shot sailed high.
In the 53rd minute, Karoly made a run into the box off a pass from Calhoun, but couldn't crack the scoring column. Torda tried to rally the offense midway through the half, but Turpen came up with another save to keep the Frogs off the board.
Following a Ute goal by Hanna Terry in the 54th minute, Karoly tried to put the Frogs on the board at the 55:53 mark, but couldn't beat Turpen.
With 25 minutes remaining in the game, Kristen Halverson connected from the right side of the field, but her header just missed wide of the goal.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Shelledy almost found the back of the net in the 71st minute, but Turpen came up with another save to keep score at 3-0 in favor of the Utes.
Late in the match, Alex Mechalske played a ball into the box to Karoly from midfield, but Karoly's shot was saved.
Overall, TCU outshot the Utes, 20-17, including 15-7 in the second half. Torda recorded five shots on Thursday night, while Calhoun and Karoly chipped in with three apiece.
