FORT WORTH – No. 13 TCU volleyball took care of business, picking up wins over Yale and Rice to sweep the Fight in the Fort inside Schollmaier Arena and wrap up non-conference play on Friday night.

The Horned Frogs (9-2, 0-0 Big 12) opened the day with a 3-0 sweep of Yale before returning to the court Friday night and taking down Rice in four sets. With the two victories, TCU extended its winning streak to seven matches to cap off non-conference play.

Evan Hendrix led the charge with 34 kills over the course of the two matches, recording double-doubles in both contests. Kinsley Young was dominant in the middle, totaling 22 kills, a career-high 15 of which came against Rice, to go along with 11 blocks. Jalyn Gibson continued to make strides in each match since returning to the lineup after a season-ending ALC injury a year ago. She racked up 22 kills while hitting at an extremely efficient .413 clip.

MATCH ONE | TCU 3, YALE 0
TCU got the day started with a sweep of Yale, holding the Bulldogs to a mere .148 hitting percentage. Hendrix and Becca Kelley powered the offense with 12 kills each.

Yale made the Frogs work early, holding an 8-6 advantage in the opening set before TCU found its rhythm. Hendrix and Young helped the Frogs take control down the stretch, and TCU closed out the frame, 25-20.

The Frogs carried that momentum into the second, jumping out to an 11-5 advantage. Yale managed to claw back within one, but TCU answered with another late push, using an ace from Lauren Murphy and a strong finish from Hendrix to pull away and win the set 25-18.

The Bulldogs refused to go quietly in the third as the two sides battled through 12 ties and six lead changes. Tied at 22, Gibson hammered down a kill to put the Frogs back in front before Young and Murphy teamed up for back-to-back stuff blocks to cap off the sweep, 25-22.

MATCH TWO | TCU 3, RICE 1
After a few hours of rest, the Frogs came back for a battle with Rice. TCU finished with four players in double figures, led by Hendrix, who turned in another big performance with 22 kills on a .391 clip and 10 digs for a double-double.

Young put together one of the best performances of her young career, tallying a career high with 15 kills while committing just one error on 24 swings for a .583 hitting percentage. The freshman's impact was felt all across the court as she led the defense with seven blocks. Alice Volpe also had a strong night, anchoring the back row with 18 digs while playing against her mother, Genny Volpe, the Rice head coach.

TCU had to battle from behind in the first set after Rice used a 7-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. The Owls remained in front at 18-14 before the Frogs came alive down the stretch. TCU fought all the way back to even the score at 18 and eventually grabbed a 23-21, and Hendrix then slammed down each of the final two points to secure the opener, 25-22.

Rice responded in the second, taking advantage of a late run to even the match with a 25-21 victory despite TCU putting down 20 kills on a .395 clip. The Frogs punched back in the third, hitting a blistering .472 with 19 kills. Young, Hendrix and Kelley had the offense clicking.

With its back against the wall early in the fourth, TCU delivered its biggest run of the night. Rice raced out to a 10-3 advantage, but the Frogs slowly chipped away and eventually pulled even at 17-all on a Hendrix kill. From there, the junior sparked an 8-0 scoring run that flipped a 17-16 deficit into a 24-17 TCU lead. The Owls fought off four match points, but Young put an end to the comeback attempt with her 15th kill to seal the match.

TCU opens Big 12 play next Friday, Sept. 25, on the road against Cincinnati.
