WACO, Texas – No. 16 TCU volleyball picked up a gritty road win, taking down No. 24 Baylor 3-2 in a five-set thriller on Friday night inside the Ferrell Center.

The Horned Frogs (16-5, 7-3 Big 12) went the distance to snap a two-match skid with a big rivalry victory. Becca Kelley led the charge offensively with 19 kills and four blocks, while Evan Hendrix turned in another all-around performance with 17 kills, 12 digs and an ace. Lauren Murphy provided a huge spark off the bench, chipping in seven kills without an error on just nine swings for a blistering .778 hitting percentage. Alice Volpe anchored the back row with a team-high 15 digs, while De'Andrea McMillian led the Frogs at the net with seven total blocks.

The opening set was a battle from the jump. Neither side was able to create much separation as the first set featured 13 ties and seven lead changes. Baylor led by four early, but the Frogs pulled even at 16-all before Kelley put TCU in front with a kill. The Bears answered and with a 4-0 run to regain control at 22-19, but the Frogs refused to go away. They scored five of the next six points to earn set point at 24-23 before Baylor tied the score to force extras. Hendrix kept the Frogs alive at 25-all, and Kelley hammered down back-to-back kills to seal a 27-25 opening-set victory.

Baylor responded immediately in the second, racing out to a 12-4 advantage. TCU chipped away behind Hendrix and Kelley, eventually pulling within three at 23-20. However, the Bears held off the comeback attempt to take the second, 25-21, and even the match.

Tied at one set apiece, Baylor once again grabbed an early advantage in the third. The Bears built up a 15-11 lead before Archer stepped to the service line and sparked a 6-0 scoring run and shifted the momentum. TCU took control at 17-15 as the match got chippy. An unsuccessful Baylor challenge got the home crowd up in arms and a red card issued to the Bears' head coach added to the craziness, but the Frogs remained focused and finished off the third set, 25-21.

Baylor responded in the fourth, taking an 8-3 lead and never looked back. TCU struggled to find a rhythm offensively as Baylor cruised to a 25-15 victory to force a fifth.

Playing a winner-take-all set, the Frogs came out firing in the fifth. Hendrix put away two early kills to help TCU jump in front, 4-1, before Kelley added another to make it 5-2. Baylor managed to side out, but TCU continued to have an answer. Hendrix found the floor again before Archer and Young teamed up for a stuff block to make it 7-3. TCU pulled away as Kelley hammered down a kill before McMillian and Gibson teamed up for a stuff block to push the lead to five at 12-7.

Baylor managed one more point, but Kelley answered again with a kill followed by an ace to give TCU match point. Hendrix put the finishing touches on the match with her 17th kill of the night to seal the fifth, 15-8, and complete the five-set road victory.

TCU continues Big 12 play on Sunday, Nov. 1, when it hosts Kansas State at 2 p.m. inside Schollmaier Arena.
