FORT WORTH – After registering 20 kills in back-to-back matches against No. 24 Baylor and Kansas State, TCU's Becca Kelley was named AVCA National Player of the Week and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
Â
It marks Kelley's first National Player of the Week honor as she joins Melanie Parra as the only two players in program history to earn the weekly award. Parra earned the honor three times with the Frogs and is still the only player in Division I history to win the award in back-to-back weeks.
Â
Kelley totaled a Big 12-leading 40 kills on a .309 hitting percentage over the weekend while guiding No. 16 TCU volleyball to a pair of conference victories. Her 4.44 kills per set and 5.06 points per set ranked third in the league over the two-match span.
Â
On Friday against No. 24 Baylor, Kelley led the Frogs to their fourth ranked win of the season with a 20-kill match. She played a key role helping TCU win a thriller over its in-state rival, slamming down five kills in the decisive fifth set. The Rockwall, Texas, native also added four blocks and an ace to score 23.5 points for the Frogs.
Â
Kelley followed it up with another 20-kill outing against Kansas State on Sunday, giving her consecutive matches with 20 kills for the first time in her career. Attacking from all over the court, the senior lit up the Wildcats offensively, hitting at a .405 clip with just three errors on 42 swings. She also put away her 900th career kill in the win, inching her closer to the 1,000 kill milestone.
Â
The recognition marked her third Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award of the season, the most of any player in the conference this year.
Â
Kelley and No. 16 TCU are back in action on Friday, Nov. 6, at Houston at 6:30 p.m. CT.
