Horned Frogs outlasted by Red Raiders
LUBBOCK, Texas – On a sunny but windy Thursday afternoon, the 20th-ranked TCU women's tennis team came up short against Texas Tech, 4-3, at McLeod Tennis Center.
After the Red Raiders captured the doubles point, TCU (16-4, 9-3 Big 12) was able to win back momentum and bring the match down to the final court. However, Texas Tech was able to give one last punch and outlast the Frogs.
During the match, Cayetana Gay picked up her 12th dual singles victory on the year, increasing her perfect 12-0 mark. Raquel Caballero Chica grabbed a clutch triumph on the top singles court, and Jennifer Jackson secured her fifth singles win in a row. Even in the loss, the bright spots continue to shine for TCU.
DOUBLES RUNDOWN
After falling behind early in doubles play, TCU was unable to gain an advantage and ended up dropping the point to the Red Raiders.
Court one was the first to finish, as the 77th-ranked pairing of Kate Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy were too much for Victoria Gomez O'Hayon and Yu-Chin Tsai, winning 6-1.
Ella Brownback and Andreea Lila would then push through and defeat Tomi Main and Gay, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point and give Texas Tech an early 1-0 lead.
After going up 5-4 in their bout and having the court at match point, Caballero Chica and Jackson were unable to get it done against Elena Daskalova and Mariia Hlahola, as the doubles point ended before their court could finish.

SINGLES RUNDOWN
Singles play extended the match to last nearly four hours, and there were plenty of dramatics to go along with the elongated match time. After earning three of four singles victories to start, the Red Raiders captured the final two courts to secure the clinch and the victory.
Texas Tech quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Dmitrichenko defeated Cristina Ramos Sierra, 6-3, 6-0.
However, Caballero Chica responded in emphatic fashion, dropping Hailey Murphey by way of a 6-2, 6-4 scoreline. The junior moved to 8-3 on the year in dual singles matches and has been a consistent rock at the top of the lineup in recent matchups, winning four of her last five completed showdowns.
Jackson would follow on court four, grabbing the victory in two sets over Polina Sleptsova, 6-2, 6-3.
Gay would put the match on the brink of being clinched after she earned a gritty three-set victory against Havana Kadi, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
After Gay's win, Texas Tech would proceed to take court three to have it all come down to Tomi Main on court six. After battling ahead to a 4-2 lead in the third set, Main was unfortunately unable to hold onto the lead, and the Red Raiders would find a way to win the court and the match.
