Horned Frogs eyeing history in final two regular season matches
FORT WORTH – On the brink of postseason play, the 20th-ranked TCU women's tennis team has its eyes set on its last two regular season competitions, hitting the road to face off against Texas Tech on Thursday at 1 p.m. and Colorado on Saturday at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Last week, TCU hosted its final two regular season matches against Utah and BYU. After dropping a heartbreaker to the Utes, 4-3, the Frogs were able to rebound with an emphatic sweep over the Cougars on Senior Day to round out the regular season home slate
In the sweep over BYU, TCU collected the doubles point in quick fashion then went on to earn singles wins from courts three, four and five to capture the 4-0 triumph. Cristina Ramos Sierra, Jennifer Jackson and Cayetana Gay earned singles wins on the day to guide the Frogs to victory.
HISTORY BREWING
With a 16-3 overall record including a 9-2 mark in Big 12 play, this year's squad has already set numerous milestones with multiple matches left to play. With nine conference victories, that marks the most in school history while members of the Big 12.
If TCU were to win its next two matches, it would at least clinch a share of the Big 12 title for the first time in program history.
DEPTH BUILT HERE
The success this season has been built from all spots in the lineup being able to find ways to win critical points and secure matches for the Frogs. In singles, TCU has earned 13 wins on courts four (13-1) and 14 on court five (14-1), the most out of any two court on the team. The courts that come in second and third are court three with an 11-3 record and court six with a 10-1 ledger.
Multiple players have helped build this depth across the entirety of the doubles and singles lineup. Yu-Chin Tsai is 12-1 in dual singles matches, and Gay (11-0) and Ramos Sierra (10-2) have notched impressive results as well to help put TCU in the position it is in right now.
The star power still remains at the top however, as Raquel Caballero Chica has been stellar on the top court for the Frogs, posting a 5-1 record during the month of March in singles matches with two ranked wins and a Big 12 Player of the Week honor.
HISTORY AGAINST THE RED RAIDERS
The Frogs have earned a 30-15 ledger overall versus Texas Tech. TCU has won two of the last three matchups heading into Thursday's contest against the Red Raiders. In conference play, the Frogs hold an 18-8 record against Texas Tech.
In matches played in Lubbock, TCU is currently 10-8. This year to date, the Red Raiders are 14-9 overall and are currently 5-6 in league play.
HISTORY AGAINST THE BUFFALOES
TCU holds a perfect 4-0 record in its history going up against Colorado. The two teams have only faced off once since both joining the Big 12, with the Frogs earning a 4-0 victory at home last season.
This marks the first time TCU will take on Colorado in Boulder, as the two have only faced off before in Fort Worth or at a neutral site. This season, Colorado is 10-11 overall including a 2-9 mark in Big 12 play.
