Horned Frogs will face off in final two home matches of regular season
FORT WORTH – Currently sitting at the top of the Big 12 standings with two weekends of competition to go, the TCU women's tennis team will play in its two final home matches against Utah (April 2, 1 p.m.) and BYU (April 4, 11 a.m.) at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
LAST TIME OUT
After taking down Cal Poly, 4-0, in its last nonconference regular season match, TCU defeated in-state rival Baylor, 4-1, this past Saturday. After winning the doubles point and singles play was forced to move inside due to rain, the Frogs were able to keep up the energy and secure the necessary three courts needed to win the match.
With its eighth win in Big 12 play on Saturday against Baylor, TCU has recorded its most Big 12 wins in a single season in program history with four conference matches remaining. The previous record of seven was achieved three times before but has now been surpassed by this momentous season.
TOP OF THE TABLE
With only two weekends left in conference play, TCU sits at 8-1 overall in Big 12 play. That record is good enough for sole possession of first place in the standings, as the Frogs look to accomplish a feat they have never done before as representatives of the Big 12.
TCU's upcoming tilt against Utah will stand to be massive for the conference title picture, as the Utes are currently a match back from first place with a 7-2 conference mark.
DEPTH BUILT HERE
The success this season has been built from all spots in the lineup being able to find ways to win critical points and secure matches for the Frogs. In singles, TCU has earned 12 wins on courts four (12-0) and five (12-1), the most out of any court on the team. The courts that come in second and third are court three with a 10-2 record and court six with a 9-1 ledger.
Multiple players have helped build this depth across the entirety of the doubles and singles lineup. Yu-Chin Tsai is a perfect 12-0 in dual singles matches, and Cayetana Gay (9-0) and Cristina Ramos Sierra (9-1) have notched impressive results as well to help put TCU in the position it is in right now.
The star power still remains at the top however, as Raquel Caballero Chica has been stellar on the top court for the Frogs, posting a 5-1 record this past month in singles matches with two ranked wins and a Big 12 Player of the Week honor.
HISTORY AGAINST THE UTES
TCU is currently 9-2 all-time against Utah. Tomorrow will mark the first time the programs have gone up against each other as representatives of the Big 12. The two opponents last faced off in the 2011 season in Fort Worth.
The Frogs won the first nine of the series, while the Utes have taken the past two. The last time TCU grabbed a win at home versus Utah was the 2009 season and is also the last time the Utes fell to the Frogs.
HISTORY AGAINST THE COUGARS
In 13 total matches between the two teams, TCU has posted a 7-6 ledger against the Cougars. The 2024 season saw the first matchup with both teams representing the Big 12, and the past four showdowns have been split evenly amongst both sides.
