FORT WORTH – No. 9 TCU volleyball continued its winning ways on Sunday afternoon, taking down UCF 3-1inside Schollmaier Arena.
Â
The Horned Frogs (13-2, 4-0 Big 12) extended their winning streak to 11 matches and remained perfect in conference play. TCU was firing on all cylinders, racking up 61 kills on a .333 hitting percentage while adding 12 aces and 10.5 blocks. The Frogs were especially dialed in at the service line, tallying the most aces in a single match since 2019, when they recorded 13 at Kansas State.
Â
Becca Kelley led the charge with 21 kills on a .357 hitting percentage, her third 20-kill performance of the season. Evan Hendrix was right behind her with 18 kills and a team-best 17 digs for her fifth straight double-double.
Â
However, the highlight of the match came in the second set when fifth-year senior Jalyn Gibson put away her 1,000th career kill. The San Antonio product etched her name into the history books, becoming the 14th player in program history to join the exclusive list.
Â
Rosemary Archer guided the offense with 41 assists and chipped in two aces, while Alice Volpe finished with 14 digs and two aces herself. De'Andrea McMillian led the Frogs at the net with five blocks, while Kinsley Young and Jalyn Gibson added four apiece to help hold UCF to a .208 hitting percentage.
Â
TCU came out with a point to prove in the opening set. The Frogs jumped out to a 10-5 advantage before completely blowing things open with an 11-0 run to take a commanding 22-6 lead. Volpe served up an ace during the run, while the Frogs' block forced eight UCF errors. Lauren Murphy came off the bench to add an ace down the stretch before Reese Robins put away set point for a dominant 25-8 victory. TCU tallied 15 kills in the frame without committing a single attack error, hitting a blistering .625 while holding UCF to -.037.
Â
UCF fought back to even the match in a marathon second set. The Knights built up a 19-15 advantage before the Frogs slowly chipped away, eventually pulling even at 20-all. From there, both teams traded points, with each side earning multiple set-point opportunities to close. In the end, it was UCF that found a way to steal the set, 33-31, scoring the final three points in a row.
Â
The back-and-forth battle continued into the third. UCF held a 12-9 advantage before TCU began to find its rhythm again. Tied at 16-all, Young cleaned up a deflected swing right above the net and hammered it home for a kill. Gibson followed with an ace, and Hendrix found the floor again as the Frogs took control and never looked back. TCU scored 10 of the final 13 points, with Kelley eventually slamming down set point for a 25-19 win.
Â
Looking to close out the match, the Frogs gathered control with a four-point lead at the media break. TCU continued to stretch the advantage to 17-12 as Hendrix and Kelley lit up the court. The Knights refused to go quietly, battling all the way back to tie the set at 20, but the Frogs didn't panic.
Â
TCU slammed the door shut after the block came up with huge back-to-back, and Volpe laid it all on the line for match point, running into the scorer's table to make a one-handed save to keep the rally alive. The Frogs gritted out a 25-22 set win to pick up their 11th straight victory.
Â
No. 9 TCU wraps up a three-match homestand on Friday, Oct. 9, when it welcomes Arizona to Schollmaier Arena at 6:30 p.m. CT.
