FORT WORTH – After storming back to force a fifth set, No. 20 TCU dropped a five-set heartbreaker to No. 22 Baylor on Saturday afternoon inside Schollmaier Arena.
Playing in front of a crowd of over 3,000 fans, the Frogs (19-10, 9-8 Big 12) were unable to slow down the Bears' offense, which hit .314 on the afternoon, led by Ksenia Rakhmanchik with 28 kills.
Evan Hendrix finished with 17 kills and 15 digs, notching her 18th double-double of the year for TCU. Becca Kelley and Lauren Muphy each added 14 and 12 kills, respectively, but it wasn't enough to overcome 27 attacking errors.
Baylor took the first set 25-19, capitalizing on early runs, but the Frogs evened the score in the second. With both teams searching for momentum, a 6-0 scoring run capped off by an Alexis Roberson kill gave TCU a 20-12 lead, and Kelley hammered down a kill to secure the second set, 25-18.
But once again, momentum swung the other way in the third. Baylor used a 10-3 run to start the set to win 25-15. Just when it looked like the Bears were going to close things out in the fourth, the TCU offense came alive, scoring in bursts to tie the score at 15 and build up a 21-17 lead. Backed by the crowd, Muphy and the Frogs forced a fifth set with a 25-21 win.
With the match on the line, Baylor jumped out to a commanding 8-3 lead to start the first set. In the end, the five-point deficit proved too much for TCU to erase as the Frogs fell 15-6 in the fifth set.
No. 20 TCU closes out the regular season on the road on Saturday, Nov. 29, against Houston at 1 p.m. CT.
