Volleyball Sweeps Big 12 Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – After a huge week that saw wins over No. 8 SMU and No. 14 Purdue and a seven-spot rise to No. 11 in the national rankings, TCU volleyball swept the Big 12 Conference's Player of the Week awards.
Rosemary Archer, Becca Kelley, Alice Volpe and Kinsley Young were recognized Tuesday afternoon by the league as players of the week at their respective positions.
It marks the first time in program history that the Horned Frogs have swept all the weekly conference awards. Kelley was named Offensive Player of the Week, Volpe was named Defensive Player of the Week, Rosemary Archer was named Setter of the Week and Young was named Rookie of the Week.
Kelley had a dominant week, ranking third in the Big 12 with 4.77 points per set and fourth with 4.18 kills per set. The senior outside totaled 46 kills on an extremely efficient .365 hitting percentage against three ranked opponents, while adding 17 digs and nine blocks. She was key in the Frogs' wins, posting 20 kills and four blocks to help TCU take down No. 8 SMU and recording 18 kills on a .471 clip to sweep No. 14 Purdue on the road.
Anchoring the back row, Volpe totaled 43 digs over the span of three matches for an average of 3.91 per set (fifth in the Big 12). The junior libero was stellar defensively, recording 20 digs (4.00 per set) in the win over No. 8 SMU while helping hold the Mustangs to a .204 clip. She finished with 17 digs (5.67 per set) in the Frogs' sweep of No. 14 Purdue on the road, limiting the Boilermakers to a .172 mark on offense.
TCU's offense was firing on all cylinders last week thanks to Archer. The fifth-year senior dished out 79 assists on the week (7.18 per set), helping TCU record a .283 hitting percentage. In the upset win over No. 8 SMU, she had 40 assists and fed her hitters to a .294 clip. Despite the loss at No. 6 Louisville, the Frogs finished just a tick under .300 as a team offensively. Archer closed out the week with a 23-assist performance in TCU's sweep of No. 14 Purdue on the road.
Still only five matches into her collegiate career, Kinsley Young is already making noise. Last week, she tallied the second-most blocks of any player in the conference (17) and added 19 kills to total 2.6 points per set. The freshman introduced herself to her home crowd, leading TCU to an upset win over No. 8 SMU. She finished with six kills on a .400 clip and a career-high nine blocks, including the match-winner. The Southlake, Texas, native was key in helping TCU rack up 19.5 blocks as a team, tied for the eighth-most in a single match in school history. Against No. 6 Louisville, she registered eight kills on a .467 hitting percentage (both career-best marks). Young closed out the week with five kills and four blocks as the Frogs swept No. 14 Purdue on the road.
No. 11 TCU continues its non-conference slate on the road, traveling to Tampa for the South Florida Invitational. The Frogs are set to take on USF, Michigan and Dayton Sept. 10-12.
