Brunson hits fourth home run of the season
CINCINNATI – Cincinnati completed the sweep of TCU with a 13-2, seven-inning win on Sunday afternoon at UC Baseball Field. Chase Brunson hit his fourth home run of the season in the loss.
The Rundown
Chase Brunson got the Horned Frogs off to a 1-0 start with a lead-off home run, but the Bearcats had an answer in the bottom of the inning. Two hits and an error tied the game. Josh Kross' two-run home run gave Cincinnati the 3-1 lead after one.
The Bearcats sent 11 men to the plate and scored five times on just two hits in the second. A quintet of walks was the downfall of the inning as three runs scored on bases-loaded walks to give the Bearcats an 8-1 lead.
TCU picked up its final run of the game with two outs in the sixth. Anthony Silva singled and stole second. Payton Tolle lined a double into left field to make it a 9-2 ballgame.
The Bearcats answered with a two out bases-loaded single to make it 11-2. The game ended on a two run home run from Kerrington Cross.
Ben Hampton (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in just an inning-plus of work. Caedmon Parker gave the Frogs a good outing in relief. He allowed two runs on three hits in 4 1/3 innings of work, walking two and striking out four.
Stat of the Game:
3 - Chase Brunson's lead-off home run was the third of the season for the Horned Frogs. Peyton Chatagnier has the other two (vs. FGCU 2/17; vs. UCLA 2/25).
Notes:
