Bowen hits fourth home run of the season
FORT WORTH – Texas Tech scored seven unanswered runs in taking a 7-1 win over TCU in the series opener at Lupton Stadium Friday night. Karson Bowen's third inning home run accounted for the lone tally for the Horned Frogs.
The Rundown
TCU had base runners in each of the first four innings, managed one run on a lead-off home run off the bat of Karson Bowen in the third. The Red Raiders turned a pair of double plays to erase base runners in the first and third innings.
Payton Tolle (3-3) pitched around a double in each of the first two innings, but a one out walk in the fourth opened the doors for a big inning for Texas Tech. Back-to-back hits had the Red Raiders in front 2-1. A two out single pushed the lead to 3-1.
Tolle finished the night with 11 strikeouts over five innings of work. He was touched for three runs on seven hits and walked two.
Texas Tech scored single runs in the sixth and eighth and two more in the ninth to account for the final score.
Stat of the Game:
4 - TCU had a base runner on in seven of nine frames but never sent more than four batters to the plate in an inning.
Notes:
With the loss, TCU falls to 20-12 overall and 5-11 in the Big 12. Game 2 of the three game series is set for Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Louis Rodriguez will get the ball for the Horned Frogs. The contest will be televised on ESPNU.
