Frogs Drop First Match of the Season

FORT WORTH: TCU Women's Tennis fall short of the Tigers on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, 6-1.

After starting the season 6-0, the Horned Frogs (6-1) played in a tightly contested match but couldn't finish the job as the Tigers (5-1) got the win.

The doubles point set the Frogs behind early in the match. The No. 31 ranked duo on the country of Helena Narmont and Yu-Chin Tsai kept their team in the fight with a 6-2 win over Kylie Collins and Nina Geissler. The duo remains undefeated on the year, improving to 6-0 with the victory over the Tigers.

On the number one and three courts, TCU struggled to control the match as LSU took an early lead.

In singles play, TCU kept pace with the Tigers and almost took control of the match. Sophomore Jade Otway evened the score with a victory over LSU's Safiya Carrington with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

With the match even at one apiece, the balance of the match shifted on court one. With a split set score, Tiphanie Lemaitre held a 2-1 lead in the third set. The balance of the match shifted after the transfer narrowly lost back-to-back deuce points against the No. 10 ranked singles player Kylie Collins. Collins led the way for the rest of the match as LSU grabbed a 2-1 lead (0-6, 6-2, 6-2).

The loss on court one was felt throughout the rest of the field as the Tigers closed out matches on court No. 4 and court No. 6, handing the Frogs their first loss of the season.
