TCU Travels to No. 14 UCF
Orlando, Florida.: The Horned Frogs are on the road for the first time this season against the UCF Golden Knights at the UTSA Tennis Center Friday, Feb. 24 at 4:00 p.m.
TCU (6-1) heads to Orlando after an impressive home stand to start the season. The Frogs are off to one of the best starts in recent history. In seven home matches to start the year, TCU's first six wins marked the best start in the Big 12 era.
As it stands, TCU has the No. 44 doubles team in the country. Helena Narmont and Yu-Chin Tsai are currently undefeated holding a perfect 6-0 duo record. A duo of Frogs have also tallied ranked wins this season. Tiphanie Lemaitre knocked off the No. 75 ranked singles player in the country. Captain Mercedes Aristegui improved her resume with defeated ITA's No. 73 ranked singles player leading her to Conference honors. She was named Big 12 player of the week on Feb. 7, the second of her career.
Scouting the Golden Knights: UCF (4-3) had an excellent start to their season with their most notable win coming against No. 14 Auburn at the ITA Kickoff. The Golden Knights are currently slotted at No. 14 in the latest ITA rankings. They are led by two singles competitors in Marrie Mattel and Nandini Sharma. Mattle has two ranked wins already this year and is the No. 31 best singles player in the nation according to ITA. Sharma is ranked No. 125 playing most of her matches on court No. 6.
Last Time Out: The Horned Frogs played a tightly contested match against the LSU Tigers. TCU dragged their SEC opponent to three sets in three singles matches. Jade Otway secured the lone point for TCU in singles keeping her team in the fight. After a few close contests on other singles courts, the Horned Frogs ultimately could not close the gap as LSU got the win, handing TCU their first loss of the season.
UCF History: TCU and UCF have met five times over the course of their respective histories. The Frogs currently hold a 3-2 match lead over the Golden Knights. The first meeting between these two teams came in 2001, where the Frogs took home a commanding 5-2 victory. The last time these two teams met was in 2021 where UCF edged the Frogs.
