FROG FOCUS
The Horned Frogs moved up to No. 72 in the latest ITA rankings after defeating West Virginia in the first match of a weekend split. TCU took down the Mountaineers, 4-2, before suffering a loss to No. 28 Iowa State.
Senior Alisa Soloveva had a phenomenal weekend in singles action, playing at the No. 1 spot. She took down No. 68 Thasaporn Naklo of Iowa State, 6-3, 6-4, on Sunday for her second ranked win of the campaign and third straight victory. Soloveva holds the best winning percentage on the team in singles play, 64.3%, with a 9-5 record.
In doubles play, the all-Spanish pairing of Mercedes Aristegui and Isabel Pascual enjoyed a 1-0 weekend last week, defeating West Virginia's No. 2 pairing before their match against Iowa State was left unfinished while on serve, 4-5. The pairing is 1-1 in Big 12 matches this season, playing long points in typical Spanish style which has led to four of their conference matches being unfinished.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Oklahoma (19-1) is the surprise team of the Big 12 this season. After starting the year ranked No. 19 and third in the preseason conference poll, the Sooners have knocked off 12 ranked opponents, only falling to No. 1 North Carolina in the ITA Indoor Championships Final. OU is coming off a 4-3 victory over No. 6 Texas this past Sunday and carry an eight-match winning streak, all against ranked opponents, into the match on Friday. TCU leads the all-time series 22-18 and will be looking to break a four-match losing streak against the Sooners tomorrow.
Oklahoma State (12-3) enters the weekend after defeating Baylor, 5-2, in Stillwater on Sunday. The win snapped a two-match losing streak (vs. Texas, 4-1, and at UCF, 4-3). OSU is looking for its first true road win of the season on Friday when they battle Texas Tech, before coming to Fort Worth for Sunday's dual. The Cowgirls lead the all-time series 14-7 and have won the last 10 matches dating back to 2013.
