TCU will finish out the regular season at home against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The final weekend of the regular season will bring the TCU women's tennis team back home to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center as the Horned Frogs prepare to host No. 11 Oklahoma State on April 12 and No. 30 Oklahoma on April 14.
TCU (12-7, 4-3 Big 12) will first face the Cowgirls (16-6, 6-1 Big 12) on Friday at 5:30 p.m., before taking on the Sooners (15-6, 4-3 Big 12) on Sunday at 1 p.m. The first 150 fans in attendance at Friday's match will get a free t-shirt as well as free tacos from Salsa Limon and free pizza from Buffalo Bros. For Sunday's match, the team will host a free Easter Egg Hunt for children six and under after doubles as well as free pizza from Buffalo Bros.
TCU Notables
TCU spent the last two weekends on the road and ended its road trip with a tough 4-3 loss to then-No. 7 Texas last Friday. The Frogs enter the final weekend of action for the regular season with four wins in conference play and two victories over ranked opponents. The team is nearly perfect at home in 2019 with a 10-1 mark with five of the wins coming over regional opponents.
Ellie Douglas continues to be ranked in the Oracle/ITA singles poll and moved up to her highest ranking of the season at No. 60. The freshman has 10 wins on the season, five in Big 12 play and also four over ranked opponents. Douglas is also ranked in the doubles poll with partner Aleksa Cveticanin as the duo are 11-2 on the year and 5-1 in Big 12 action. Fellow freshmen Mercedes Aristegui and Kate Paulus continue to pace TCU in singles action with Aristegui leading the way with 16 victories and Paulus posting 12 wins.
Scouting the Cowgirls
Oklahoma State has won 12 of the last 13 matches played and are 6-1 in Big 12 play with the team's only loss coming to Texas. The Cowgirls are on a two-match winning streak after picking up a 5-2 win over UCF and sweeping Oklahoma on senior day. Oklahoma State has three ranked singles players with No. 23 Katarina Stresnakova leading the way followed by No. 108 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and No. 117 Marina Guinart. The Cowgirls also have two ranked doubles teams with Sofia Blanco appearing in both. Blanco pairs with Catherine Gulihur for a No. 24 ranking and Lisa Marie Rioux for a No. 75 ranking.
Scouting the Sooners
Oklahoma's two-match winning streak was snapped at Oklahoma State last weekend as the Sooners were swept in the Bedlam match. Oklahoma sits at No. 30 in the latest poll after scoring three wins over nationally ranked opponents. Oleksandra Korashvil is the only ranked Sooner in the singles poll at No. 22 with 15 wins on the season and seven wins over ranked opponents. Ivana Corley and Jasmine Asghar boast the team's only doubles ranking at No. 58 with the duo posting 20 wins this season with nine of them coming at the No. 1 spot.
All-Time Series
Friday's match will be the 23rd meeting all-time between TCU and Oklahoma State with the Cowgirls holding a 12-10 advantage in the all-time series and wins in the last seven-straight matches. Since becoming conference foes, TCU has only won the first meeting in 2013, 5-2, in a match played in Stillwater. This will be the 11th match to be played in Fort Worth between the programs with the series all tied up at 5-5. The last time TCU scored the win at home came in 2004 with a 4-0 sweep.
Sunday's match will be the 39th meeting all-time between TCU and Oklahoma with the Frogs leading the series with a 23-15 mark. Since becoming Big 12 conference rivals, TCU is 4-3 all-time against Oklahoma and had a four-match winning streak until the Sooners got the 4-1 victory last spring. This will be the 19th match to take place in Fort Worth in the all-time series with TCU 11-7 in matches played on the Bernard J. 'Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts.
