
NIVC Quarterfinals Preview: TCU vs Colgate

FORT WORTH -- TCU volleyball hosts the NIVC Quarterfinals on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. against the Colgate Raiders. The Horned Frogs are playing for their second NIVC semifinals berth in the last three seasons.

Quick Facts
-TCU is competing in the NIVC for the second time in program history. The only other appearance came in 2017, when the Horned Frogs reached the semifinals
-Clark leads the team in kills (23) and blocks (20) through two matches.
-Her 12 blocks against Miami (OH) ties a program record. It was the most blocks in a single match of any Big 12 player this season, tied for the seventh most in the country this season. She followed that with eight blocks in three sets against BGSU.
-TCU finished its first-round match with 18.0 blocks as a team, tied for the eighth most in a single match in program history.
As a team, TCU dug 91 balls in the first round, the most in a match this season and the most since Oct. 18, 2018 – 94 vs. WVU.
-Against Bowling Green, TCU continued to dominate at the net, out blocking the Falcons 11-4, including eight from Clark and a career-best five from Ashley Waggle.
-Three attackers hit at or above .300: Clark (.429), Waggle (.429) and Audrey Nalls (.300). It was the 4th time this season TCU has accomplished that, 4-0 in such matches.
-In two matches, TCU is out blocking opponents 29-12, averaging 3.63 blocks/set.
-The Horned Frog defense has been equally strong on the back row, where they average 17.88 digs/set this tournament, led by 5.5 digs/set from Dani Dennison.
-Clark, Nalls and Nichols have each turned in double-doubles so far in the tournament.
-Jill Kramer holds a 6-3 record in the postseason as the TCU head coach.
Ice Ice Katie
-Sophomore Katie Clark has been on a tear since moving to the middle blocker position at Kansas.
-She has delivered at least three blocks in 11 of 12 matches since moving to the middle, while averaging 1.33 b/set and 2.78 k/s on .298 hitting.
-Against Miami (OH) she posted 12 blocks, tying the TCU program record. It was the most blocks in a single match by a Big 12 player this season and tied for seventh most in the nation.
-The blocks helped her secure her first-career double-double - 12 kills and 12 blocks.
-She followed that by setting a career-high against Bowling Green with 2.66 blocks/set - 8 blocks in three sets.
-Clark has earned double-digit kills in eight matches in the middle and 14 matches overall this season, a career-best.
-The Arlington native lead the team with 165 kills in conference play, including a career-high 21 at Texas Tech.
-Her 21 kills against TTU earlier this season stands as the eighth most kills in a single Big 12 match this season.
-Clark leads the Horned Frogs in kills/set (2.68) and points (321.0), her first 300+ point season.
-Her accomplishments were enough to earn her All-Big 12 2nd Team honors, her first end of season conference award in this, her second season.
Nichols Drops Dimes
-Since taking over the setting duties before the Texas match, McKenzie Nichols has shown tremendous strides, setting a new career-best with 59 assists against Texas Tech (10/6) while tallying over 30 assists in 12 of 16 matches as the primary setter, including 40+ assists in seven of her last 10.
-She is averaging 10.34 assists/set since taking over primary duties.
-She earned Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors after dropping 91 assists over the course of eight sets (11.38 assists/set) at the start of the month (10/2-10/6).
-Her 59 assists against Tech were the sixth most assists by a freshman in a single match in program history, the most recorded by a freshman in the 25-point set, rally scoring era.
-Her 59 assists stand as the most by a setter in Big 12 play this season and is tied for the second-most assists in a single match by a Big 12 setter this season.
-She has posted a team-best nine double-doubles this season, two in NIVC play. She tallied 40 or more assists in six double-doubles this year.
-In her last match against BGSU, Nichols set a career-high with 14.00 assists/set – 42 assists in three sets.
Scouting The Opponent: Colgate
-Colgate finished tied atop the Patriot league with American, both finishing with 15-1 records.
-They entered with the fourth highest RPI in the tournament (66).
-The Raiders are led by junior OH Alli Lowe, averaging 4.07 kills/set.
-They enter play with a 1-2 record against Power 5 schools with the lone win coming in the NIVC opening round, against Boston College.
-TCU leads the all-time series, 2-0. With the last match taking place back in 2011.
