SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Kim Castleberry netted two goals on Friday night as TCU upended UTSA at the UTSA Recreational Sports Complex, 4-1.Overall, the Horned Frogs outshot the Roadrunners, 13-10, including connecting on eight shots-on-goal. Jordan Calhoun, who now needs only one more goal to become TCU's all-time leading goal scorer in school history, led the TCU attack with one goal, while also assisting on another. Calhoun posted six shot attempts on the night.
The Horned Frogs came out on the offensive attack early in the first half when Castleberry found the back of the net 7 minutes, 19 seconds into the contest off an assist by Kaylie Garcia.
Calhoun tried to light up the scoreboard a few moments later, but watched as her shot was saved by Roadrunner goalkeeper Danielle Snyder.
The junior from Norman, Okla., increased the Horned Frog lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute, scoring from just outside the box. Calhoun almost found the back of the net again a few moments later, just missing in the 23rd minute.
Following a goal by UTSA's Valentina Lefort, freshman Brittany Slyman netted the final goal of the half off a corner kick by Alex Mechalske.
Slyman almost scored her second goal of the night a few moments later, but her shot hit the post to keep the score 3-1 in favor of TCU heading into halftime.
Following the 15-minute intermission, the Frogs got right to work on the offensive end when junior Chelsey Wilgenburg fired a shot towards the goal, but watched as Snyder came up with a big save.
Calhoun tried to increase the Purple and White lead in the 55th minute, but her shot sailed high over the top of the goal.
In the 57th minute, Castleberry gave the Horned Frogs a commanding 4-1 lead in the match, scoring off an assist by Calhoun on a breakaway. TCU continued to pressure UTSA a few moments later when senior Nikki Wilbur looked to have cracked the scoring column, but her header couldn't beat Lefort off a corner kick by Garcia.
Late in the contest, Calhoun appeared to have scored her second goal of the night, but Snyder came up with another big save to keep the Horned Frogs off the board.
Kelsey Walters posted five saves on the night, while Snyder recorded four for UTSA.
With the win, TCU moved to 5-4-1 on the year, while UTSA dropped to 5-5-0 on the season. The Horned Frogs have now won five-straight over the Roadrunners, including two-straight in San Antonio.
TCU will next be in action against Texas State on Sunday. Start time for the match is set for 1 p.m. from Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
