FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU Lady Frogs (6-5) wrapped up non-conference play with a 74-52 victory Monday night over the Cornell Big Red (3-9) in Fort Worth, Texas. It marked the Lady Frogs' fourth victory in a row.
Cornell led briefly early in the game, but a quick 6-0 burst by the Lady Frogs put them ahead 13-9 with 13:33 remaining. TCU used its advantage inside to build its lead to as many as 10, which was the margin at halftime at 33-23. It was the first time this season the Lady Frogs were able to take a double digit advantage into the half.
The Big Red climbed to within five three times in the second half, the last of which came with 16:48 to play at 39-34. TCU used its inside presence and proceeded to go on a 21-3 run over the next 7:34 to put the game away. The Lady Frogs finished with a 52-12 advantage on points in the paint.
Natasha Lacy, who was named the Mountain West Conference's Co-Player of the Week earlier in the day, finished with a TCU-high 13 points while collecting five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Adrianne Ross was the only other Lady Frog in double figures with 10. She also grabbed a career-high seven rebounds and added four steals.
TCU's Marissa Rivera posted career bests with seven points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Cornell was led by Lindsay Krasna's 15 points. Jeomi Maduka, who was hampered by foul trouble all night, was the Big Red's other double-digit scorer with 11 in 15 minutes.
TCU forced Cornell into 37 turnovers, which tied for the third most by a Lady Frog opponent in school history. The Purple and White also had 20 steals, which tied for the eighth most in TCU history.
The Lady Frogs took 86 shots, while Cornell had just 42. The plus-44 shot differential was the most in TCU history, eclipsing the previous margin of 36 that came on two occasions versus Texas-Pan American on Nov. 29, 1987 (97-61) and Rollins College on Feb. 4, 1984 (89-53).
TCU begins its inaugural year in the Mountain West on Saturday at Wyoming at 3 p.m. CST.
