
Miles’ Triple-Double Headlines TCU’s Historic Rout over UC San Diego

Third-seeded Horned Frogs oust Tritons 86-40 in first round of NCAA Tournament
FORT WORTH – Olivia Miles recorded a triple-double, broke TCU's single-game assists record and the third-seeded Horned Frogs rolled to an 86-40 win over No. 14 seed UC San Diego on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Miles finished with 16 points, 14 assists and 12 points en route to her sixth triple-double of the season. The Nancy Lieberman Award finalist became the first player in NCAA history to record at least 14 rebounds and assists in an NCAA Tournament game.
Behind Miles, TCU (30-5, 15-3 Big 12) posted its largest margin of victory in a postseason game in program history. The Horned Frogs led the Big West champion Tritons (24-9) by as many as 33 points in the first half and closed the game on a 19-0 run.
With the win, TCU now faces No. 6 seed Washington on Sunday in the round of 32 at a time to be determined.
Friday's rout sent the Horned Frogs to their second straight 30-win season. TCU joined 2025 Final Four participants UConn, UCLA, Texas and South Carolina as the only Power Conference teams in the country to win 30 games in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 campaigns.
The Frogs picked up their ninth all-time NCAA Tournament victory and have now won at least one game in the Big Dance in consecutive seasons for the first time in 22 years.
TCU also extended its NCAA-leading home winning streak to 43 games with the result.
Miles was one of five players to score in double figures for the Frogs and one of three to post a double-double.
Taylor Bigby tallied a career-high 27 points on 7-9 shooting from deep to lead all players.
Bigby connected on 5-6 attempts from distance to fuel TCU's first half onslaught. She drained four consecutive 3-pointers and ballooned the Horned Frogs' lead to 44-15 with 5:10 to go before the half. She had 17 points already on the ledger as teams entered the locker room.
Her seven 3-pointers were a TCU NCAA Tournament single-game record and tied for the third most ever by a player in March Madness.
Clara Silva (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Marta Suarez (11 points, 10 rebounds) joined Miles on the double-double train.
Suarez buried a trio of first quarter 3-pointers as TCU raced out to an 18-8 head start.
Veronica Sheffy capped the double-digit quintet with a season-high 12 points, all of which came in the second half.
Undoubtedly though, the day belonged to Miles.
The 5-10 guard joined Sabrina Ionescu as one of only two players in NCAA history to record two triple-doubles in March Madness. Her triple-double was the first by a Big 12 player in the Big Dance.
Miles now owns the distinction of being the only player the sport has seen to finish with a triple-double in an NCAA Tournament game with two teams. She recorded a triple-double in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament as a freshman at Notre Dame.
In addition to breaking TCU all-time leading scorer Zahna Medley's single-game assists record, Miles' 16 boards were the most in March Madness by a Horned Frog.
For a cherry on top she matched Hailey Van Lith's 2024-25 TCU single-season record for points scored (680).
Miles was the tone-setter early on. She sprinkled her stat line with seven rebounds before the opening frame elapsed. TCU scored on its first four trips down the court. Miles had the assist on each bucket, staking the Horned Frogs to an 11-2 lead just over two minutes into the ballgame.
TCU assisted on its first nine buckets and had the Tritons doubled up 24-12 entering the second quarter. The Frogs began the period on a 6-0 run and rattled off a string of 10 unanswered points to end it.
The Horned Frogs benefitted from one of their best defensive efforts of the year. TCU held UC San Diego to just 22 percent shooting from the field (15-66) and just six baskets in the second half.
TCU snagged a season-high 56 rebounds and doubled up the Tritons on the glass. The Frogs also recorded 10 blocks.
Silva led all players on the board and netted a game-high four rejections.
Bigby and 6-4 freshman Clara Bielefeld pitched in two blocks apiece.
TCU shot 13-26 from behind the arc and assisted on 23 of its 32 made field goals.
The Frogs' usual starting five of Bigby, Miles, Silva, Suarez and Donovyn Hunter, who finished with nine points, accounted for a dozen 3-pointers.
