FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU Lady Frogs evened their record on the year at 5-5 with a 70-58 victory over Texas-Arlington on Friday in Fort Worth, Texas. It marked TCU's third win in a row and dropped UTA to 5-5.
TCU led by as many as 13 at 24-11 in the first half with 10:08 to go after a three-pointer by Ashley Davis, who tied her career best for the fourth time with 17 points. The Lady Mavs scored five unanswered to close out the period trailing 37-30.
With the Lady Frogs ahead 40-34 with 2:48 gone in the second, UTA went on an 8-0 spurt to take its first lead of the game with 14:22 to play after a layup by Tojjinay Thompson.
After UTA's Ashley Bobb knotted up the score at 56-all with 7:11 showing on the scoreboard, TCU closed out the game on a 14-2 run to earn its 10th win in a row over the Lady Mavericks. The Lady Frogs forced six turnovers and UTA shot 1-of-7 from the field during TCU's run.
After starting the second half 1-for-5 from the floor, TCU shot 9-of-11 to finish 10-for-16 (.625) and made seven in a row at one point. The Lady Frogs connected on 21-of-44 (.477) for the game.
Both teams took advantage of their opportunities at the charity stripe, as UTA went 16-for-17 (.941) and TCU 25-for-31 (.806). The Lady Mavericks' performance was the second best for an opponent in TCU history.
Lady Frog Natasha Lacy led all TCU scorers with a career-high-tying 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting and a 9-for-11 effort at the free-throw line. She has scored 20-plus in back-to-back games after putting up 22 versus Arkansas State on Dec. 22.
Terra Wallace led the Lady Mavericks with 23 points, but was hampered by 10 turnovers. As a team, UTA had 22 to TCU's 19.
TCU wraps up non-conference play on Monday when it hosts the Cornell Big Red at 7 p.m. CST in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
