Bielefeld Makes Germany's FIBA World Cup Roster

FORT WORTH – Long aspiring to play for her home country on the biggest stage, Clara Bielefeld made that dream a reality.
The rising TCU sophomore was one of 12 players selected to the German National Team in advance of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup. The tournament begins Friday in Berlin, Germany and runs through Sept. 13.
Bielefeld celebrated her 19th birthday on Aug. 28. She is the youngest player competing in the tournament and one of only three active collegians to make a roster. Bielefeld will also earn the distinction of being the first TCU basketball player to appear at the FIBA World Cup while enrolled in Fort Worth.
She made history in May of 2025 as the youngest player to ever suit up for the parent club. Then age-17, Bielefeld a earned her first call-up to the senior national team for a series of international friendlies.
The 6-4 combo guard trained with the senior national team throughout the summer in hopes of making the final cut. Bielefeld last competed internationally in July at the FIBA U20 EuroBasket. There, she averaged 9.3 rebounds, 8.9 points, 6.1 assists, 2 blocks and 1.9 steals per game over six outings. Bielefeld ranked second among all players in assist per game average and led all guards in rebounding.
It was the latest showcase of Bielefeld as one of her nation's rising stars. Bielefeld has represented Germany in FIBA championship events since 2023. She was tabbed to the All-Tournament team at the 2025 FIBA U18 EuroBasket and crowned MVP of the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket Division B in 2023.
Bielefeld is likely to see an increased role for TCU during the 2026-27 campaign. Her shot creation and ability to defend multiple positions became a valuable asset to a veteran-laden Horned Frogs squad that concluded last season 32-6 and with the No. 6 final AP Top 25 ranking. Bielefeld appeared in 30-of-38 games, logging an average of 13 minutes per night. She pulled down fifth-most rebounds (90) of any Big 12 freshman guard
Germany opens the group phase on Friday vs. Spain. Games opposite Japan and Mali follow on Saturday and Monday, respectively. Teams then play four classification games to determine final positions.
