
TCU Signs Spanish Guard Contell to 2026-27 Roster

FORT WORTH – TCU ventured across the pond and returned home with one of the top guards in Spain, as the Horned Frogs have signed Claudia Contell to their 2026-27 roster.
Contell has competed for various clubs in Euroleague and Liga ACB, the top professional division in the Spanish basketball league system, for six years. She suited up for CB Gran Canaria during the 2025-26 season, averaging 16.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 40 percent from distance. Contell was a fixture within the Spanish youth national basketball system. The 5-10 guard was tabbed MVP of the U20 European Championship in 2022 after leading Spain to a gold medal.
Originally from Valencia, Spain, Contell will be a freshman at TCU and has four seasons of eligibility.
Contell most recently signed with Estepona in January. She averaged 10.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, two assists and 2.2 steals across 27 minutes per night for the club. Contell signed her first professional contract in 2021 and has also played for Valencia Basket, Hozono Jairis, and Cadí La Seu.
With Valencia, Contell won a Eurocup championship in 2020-21 and twice took home and later Spanish Super Cup championships in 2021-22 and 2023-24. She also helped lead the club to a European Super Cup title in 2021-22.
Contell is two-time FIBA medalist, having also led Spain to the bronze at the 2023 U20 European Championships. That year, she averaged nearly five assists per game while ranking in the top five among all players in total assists. Contell put up a stat line of 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 1.9 assists per game during her run to a gold medal at the U20 European Championships. She garnered All-Tournament first team accolades in addition to MVP honors.
TCU has now signed seven players during the spring recruiting cycle. Contell joins a portal class featuring fellow guards Lanie Grant, Bella Hines, Avery Hjelmstad, Camille Williams and Jadyn Wooten and stretch forward Lara Somfai.
The Horned Frogs' 2026-27 roster is complete with Contell's addition. TCU retained 2025-26 letter winners Clara Bielefeld and Clara Silva and are set to feature four freshmen next season; centers Sarah Portlock and Laura Vilcinskas, combo guard Jessie-May Hall and Contell.
