FORT WORTH – The accolades are starting to come in for the TCU women's tennis team, as the program earned seven of the nine possible designations for the Big 12 All-Tournament Team, the league announced Wednesday.
Five of the six possible singles spots had a Horned Frog representative taking home the honor. The top spot in singles was claimed by Raquel Caballero Chica, who delivered the clinching blow in the Big 12 Tournament Championship to give TCU its first-ever Big 12 Tournament title in program history.
The accolade on court three was earned by Cristina Ramos Sierra, who went 3-0 throughout the tournament in singles action. Victoria Gomez O'Hayon, playing at the No. 4 court, was 2-0 during the tournament and clinched the match over sixth-seed Baylor in the Big 12 Tournament Quarterfinals.
Jennifer Jackson, the Big 12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player, claims another honor with the Big 12 All-Tournament Team accolade on court five. The freshman went 3-0 in singles play and clinched the match in the semifinals against 10th-seed Texas Tech to book TCU's spot in the Saturday final. Cayetana Gay rounded out the Frogs who garnered accomplishments in singles, as the freshman claimed the honor on court six.
On the doubles side, two of the three selections were pairings from TCU. The first was on court two, as Jackson and Caballero Chica went a perfect 3-0 during the tournament to easily claim the honor.
TCU rounded out its All-Tournament Team selections with No. 3 doubles, as Tomi Main and Gay secured the seventh honor for the Frogs after a dominant tournament run that saw the TCU outscore its opponents 12-2 over the course of the week.
