
Caballero Chica Named Big 12 Player of the Week

Junior takes home first career conference weekly honor
FORT WORTH – The recognitions have started to come in for the TCU women's tennis team, as Raquel Caballero Chica has been selected as the Big 12 player of the week, the league announced Tuesday.
The junior picked up two singles wins this past week to help guide TCU to two road ranked victories, including one over No. 26 Oklahoma State. In Big 12 play, the Barcelona, Spain, native has won five of her six singles matches which includes two ranked victories.
This marks Caballero Chica's first conference weekly award of her career to go alongside her Big 12 All-Freshman team distinction earned during her freshman campaign in Fort Worth.
Overall, the junior has a 17-8 record in both dual singles and doubles matches. Caballero Chica been the stalwart behind TCU's historic start to the season, and the Frogs currently sit first in the conference standings through four weekends of play with a 7-1 record.
Against the Cowgirls, Caballero Chica defeated 74th-ranked Olivia Lincer of Oklahoma State in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 to put the match even at 3-3 before TCU's eventual 4-3 triumph on the road over the Cowgirls Earlier in the match, she defeated Karolina Lincer and Melisa Ercan in doubles alongside Jennifer Jackson en route to clinching the doubles point.
On Sunday, Caballero Chica started TCU's singles momentum in a 4-2 win against the Wildcats, defeating Martaa Chogsomjav, 7-6(2), 6-2.
TCU will be in action for two home matches this week, taking on Cal Poly on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and Baylor on Saturday at 12 p.m.
