No. 14 TCU routs Houston 90-45 at Schollmaier Arena
FORT WORTH – A return home reintroduced No. 14 TCU's dominant form.
The Horned Frogs posted their largest margin of victory in a Big 12 game in program history on Wednesday, hammering Houston 90-45 inside Schollmaier Arena.
Olivia Miles, Marta Suarez and Donovyn Hunter teamed up for 64 points in a game TCU led by at least 20 for the entirety of the second half.
TCU (21-3, 9-2 Big 12) remained level with No. 15 Baylor atop the Big 12 standings with the victory. The Horned Frogs also extended their NCAA-leading home winning streak to 39 games, an unbeaten run that began nearly two years ago, Feb. 24, 2024, against none other than Houston (7-15, 1-10 Big 12).
Wednesday's effort was one of the Horned Frogs' most complete performances of the season. TCU attacked the rim at will, racking up 54 points in the paint – its most in a league game this season – and finishing with 21 free throw attempts. The Frogs outrebounded the Cougars 46-22 and held their guests to just 17 makes from the field.
Suarez notched her second straight double-double and sixth of the season, collecting 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Miles led all scorers with 25 points on 9-11 shooting and padded her stat line with six assists and five boards.
Hunter shot a perfect 5-5 from the field en route to 15 points and her fifth consecutive double-digit scoring effort.
Miles and Suarez – the highest-scoring duo in the Big 12 – single-handedly outscored the Cougars in both halves and for the game.
The tandem teamed up for 27 first half points as TCU took a 44-25 lead into the locker room. The Horned Frogs limited Houston to just 20 points after the intermission.
Miles and Suarez shot a combined 68 percent from the field (19-28), knocked down 4-6 attempts from three and were 7-7 at the foul line.
The 64 points from Miles, Suarez and Hunter was the largest scoring output exhibited by the trio in any game this season.
Miles racked up 11 points in the first quarter to stake TCU to a 19-14 edge.
Suarez did her teammate one better in the second frame, tallying a dozen points and sparking an 11-0 run with consecutive layups early in the period that widened the Horned Frogs' lead to 34-16. She capped the quarter with an and-one with just over 1:30 remaining to double up the Cougars 44-22.
The Spaniard drilled two 3-pointers as a part of a 9-0 run to start the third quarter.
With the game well in hand, TCU turned to its reserves for the majority of the fourth. Eleven Frogs saw game action in the final frame.
Taliyah Parker scored a season-high seven points over the last 5:30 of the ballgame as TCU closed on an 8-0 run.
Clara Bielefeld matched her season-high on the glass with six rebounds across 18 minutes off the bench.
Clara Silva finished with eight points and seven rebounds. She scored six of TCU's first 10 points as her and Miles accounted for all-but-one of TCU's buckets in the first quarter.
