
No. 12 Takes Care of Houston, Assumes Sole Possession of First Place in Big 12

HOUSTON – After handling Houston 72-50 on Wednesday, TCU once again stands alone atop the Big 12.
Oliva Miles, Marta Suarez and Veronica Sheffey teamed up for 50 points to pace the Horned Frogs inside the Fertitta Center. TCU (24-4, 12-3 Big 12) held Houston to a season-worst 23 percent clip (14-60) from the field and never trailed.
The wire-to-wire win, coupled with No. 20 Texas Tech's 87-56 rout of 15th-ranked Baylor, vaulted TCU into sole possession of first place in the Big 12 standings with three games remaining in the regular season.
TCU will clinch a share of the conference title and the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament with victories in its next two games; at home on Sunday vs. Iowa State and at Cincinnati on Feb. 25.
The Horned Frogs connected 11 times from distance vs. the Cougars (7-19, 1-14 Big 12). Suarez and Miles were responsible for eight of TCU's 3-pointers. Both players knocked down a trio of threes in the first half.
Suarez led all players with 21 points and nine rebounds. The Spaniard shot 5-10 from behind the arc.
Miles was again a stat sheet stuffer, finishing with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Sheffey scored all 11 of her points in the second half, nine of which came in the third quarter.
TCU drilled five 3-pointers in the opening frame, including back-to-back from Miles on its final pair of offensive possessions to go on top 19-8.
Miles' deep balls ignited a 13-0 run bridging the first and second quarters that stretched TCU's lead to 26-8.
She and Suarez nearly scored as many points in the first half as Houston tallied collectively. The reigning AP National Player of the Week, Miles racked up 14 points while Suarez netted 13 as TCU took a 41-19 lead into the locker room.
The Horned Frogs held the Cougars to 5-32 shooting (15 percent).
TCU led by as many as 31 points midway through the fourth quarter.
Houston scored 35 of its points either off turnovers or at the charity stripe. The Cougars transformed 18 TCU fouls into a 20-25 mark at the foul line.
Kyndall Hunter led Houston with 20 points.
TCU pulled down 49 rebounds, its most in a Big 12 game this season.

Sunday's ballgame will be the first time Iowa State has visited Fort Worth in more than three years. The Cyclones last faced the Horned Frogs at Schollmaier Arena on Jan. 25, 2023. TCU defeated Iowa State 82-69 at Hilton Coliseum in last season's lone meeting between the programs.
